The manufacturing grounds of the today's company Bolz Apparatebau at the Isnyer road have their industrial origin already at the end of the 19th century. Land register entries from the years 1888 to 1905 describe the erection of steam chimneys, pipes into cooling wells, regulations concerning access roads and sidings. Already at that time cellulose was industrially manufactured here. After approximately 70 years, at the end of the 50's, the operation of the cellulose factory Waldhof Mannheim was stopped

Evolution of the company BOLZ from 1964 to 1994

Already in 1964 the entrepreneur Alfred Bolz, originating from East Prussia, took over those buildings of the former cellulose factory at the Isnyer road, which had been unexploited for several years. Most of the building were gradually pulled down or converted for the manufacturing of vessels.

The vessel manufacturing company BOLZ experienced the peak of the business development in the 70's and 80's, when innumerable vessels for the evolving wine and milk industry were manufactured. At best times over 200 people were employed at the factory in Wangen .

Due to recession and changes in the market, the former company was restructured in 1995, whereby 4 new independent companies emerged. The tradition of stainless steel vessel manufacturing in Wangen was carried on by the Alfred Bolz Apparatebau GmbH.

EDEL ... from the hoof- and coppersmith to the industrial tank manufacturer

The history of the name EDEL in connection with tank manufacturing began in the year 1881, when Ludwig Edel married into the family of the coppersmith J. G. Wesle. Until 1926 a continual change from the former hoof- and coppersmithy to the industrial manufacturer of copper and aluminum vessels took place. The break-through to the tank manufacturer occurred in the year 1926, when the production premises were moved from the Lindauer road to the new building at the railway station. Already at that time they proudly reported about the first participation in the brewing trade fair in Munich. After World War II the development of the firm went on continuously, so that in 1962, when the working grounds at the station became too narrow, the move to the area at the Ravensburger road was initiated. It was here where in the 60's, 70's and 80's a multitude of aluminum and stainless steel vessels for the chemical industry and particularly for the beverage and brewing industries was manufactured.

Health reasons and also receding economic developments caused the family Edel in the 90's to sell subdivisions of the company to the Zeppelin holding, which relocated the entire manufacture to Friedrichshafen in the middle of 1995. Thus a tradition of nearly 100 years in tank manufacturing seemed to be lost for the city of Wangen.

Today: BOLZ and EDEL combine over 100 years of tradition and experience in the tank and vessel manufacturing

More or less at the same time, in the middle of the 90's, both tank manufacturing companies in Wangen, BOLZ and EDEL, experienced economic difficulties. EDEL, a subsidiary of Zeppelin, was integrated into the parent branch in Friedrichshafen and BOLZ was restructured, whereby the traditional vessel manufacture was carried on by the new Alfred Bolz Apparatebau GmbH. Due to the fact that, in the years 1996/97, BOLZ had carried out numerous orders for the Zeppelin-EDEL brewery division and could acquire the necessary manufacturing know-how for this industry , the management of the company BOLZ decided to purchase the EDEL brewery- and beverage divisions. End of 1997 the contracts with Zeppelin were signed. With the unification of BOLZ and EDEL the tradition of brewery tank manufacturing returned to the home city of Wangen.

In the factories at the Isnyer and the Simonius road as well as at the customer's site, the BOLZ / EDEL group produces today vessels and tanks for the chemical, pharmaceutical, food and brewing industries. High quality, achieved by expert craftsmanship in combination with high-tech manufacturing facilities, is the hallmark of our products.
